All are welcome

After a much-needed sabbatical, we're back.

This time there's a start line so you can size up your competition and we've ditched the data charges and went with paper and pencil for the clues.

Alleycat?

An Alleycat is an unsanctioned bike race with no set route. It's like a scavenger hunt for locations in Hamilton.

When?

Rider meeting at NOON on September 8th, 2024.

Race starts shortly thereafter

Start line?

Start line is at Durand Park.

How to sign up

Just show up at Durand Park for NOON on Sunday September 8.

Then what happens?

  1. Lean or lock your bike on one side of the park
  2. A paper manifest gets attached to your bike.
  3. Line up on the other side of the park
  4. When I say go, run to your bike, open the manifest, and ride like hell.

Manifest?

A paper manifest held in a hand
  • The manifest will have 4 clues in it. For example: BANDSHELL
  • Go to that clue location
  • Find the race marker with the code
a bike in front of the BANDSHELL with race marker
  • Write the code in the manifest
  • There will be a puzzle to find where the finish line is
  • There may be some other fuckery on the manifest to keep it interesting
  • First one to arrive at the finish with a completed manifest wins.

the course

The bounds for the clues and finish line will be down the Mountain, East of Dundurn, and West of Ottawa.

the finish

  • When you get to the finish line, hand me your manifest and I'll record your rider name, number, and finish time.
  • Stick around for spoke cards, t-shirts, and vibes

the prizes

Spoke cards for the first 3 riders with complete manifests on something human-powered. E-bikes won't qualify for spoke cards.

T-shirts and pins for raddest riders (Anybody can get a t-shirt at the finish line if you're rad enough)

the rules

  1. Ride safe
  2. Have fun
  3. Friendly competition only. The prize is a fucking piece of paper, so relax.
  4. Ride anything you want
  5. No Sharing Clues. You can ride as a team, but you can't split up. I'll know.
  6. Ride safe.
